Alfa Romeo’s hotly-anticipated Stelvio SUV will cost from £33,990 when it goes on sale in the UK, the Italian manufacturer has announced.

Customers will be able to specify the SUV – the company’s first – in four different trim levels, while two engines are also available from launch.

There’s a 2.2-litre, 201bhp diesel unit, as well as faster 281bhp petrol power plant. Both engines are paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission and all-wheel drive.

Alfa Romeo will extend the engine line-up at a later date, adding a 180bhp 2.2-litre diesel available with either all- or rear-wheel-drive, and a 200bhp 2.0-litre petrol available exclusively with all-wheel-drive.

Trim levels include Stelvio, Super, Speciale and a limited-run Milano Edizione.

Entry-level Stelvio models gain 17-inch 10-spoke alloys, LED rear lights and a chrome tip on its double exhausts. There’s also an 8.8-inch infotainment screen that incorporates Bluetooth, and an eight-speaker audio system.

Models in Super specification benefit from 18-inch alloys, front and rear parking sensors, 3D satellite navigation and part-leather upholstery for an asking price of £36,190.

Starting at £41,490, Speciale models gain 19-inch alloys, red brake calipers and chorme window surrounds. There’s also bi-xenon headlights, and heated front seats upholstered in leather.

Milano Edizione models are only available to order in 2017, and will cost from £43,990. These cars gain 20-inch alloys, keyless entry, leather sports seats and an uprated 10-speaker sound system. There’s also a rear parking camera.

The new Alfa Romeo Stelvio will arrive in UK showrooms from September.
