Alpina to break into the Chinese car market

Alpina, the manufacturer of luxurious BMW-based vehicles, will begin exporting its cars to China.

The move is the result of a partnership between Alpina and Prestige Cars Group, which operates a number of BMW dealerships in China.

The Alpina B4 Bi-Turbo Coupe, which is based on the BMW 4 Series but boasts more power, will be the first model to be exported to China.

The manufacturer is also planning on exporting a range of new models as well, including the long-wheelbase B7 Bi-Turbo.

Andreas Bovensiepen, chief executive of Alpina, said: “By now, China is one of the world’s most important automobile markets. We have observed the evolution in this market for a very long time and we believe that this is the right moment for Alpina to become active in China.

“The customers are highly savvy and they appreciate the exclusiveness we offer with our automobiles. We have a strong sales partner in Prestige Cars Group and we’re looking forward to establishing a long and successful presence in China.”

Showrooms in Beijing, Shanghai and Shenzhen will sell the Alpina models. Both demonstrator and customer cars will be made available to customers. Sales begin this month.

Alpina is already planning to open more dealerships across China.
