Alpine gives glimpse of dramatic new production car

Alpine has revealed images of its new A110 production car, based on a classic model of the same name.

The original A110 was produced from 1961 to 1977, while its namesake is due to make its official debut at next week’s Geneva Motor Show.

Taking styling cues from the classic, the new model is expected to enter the ever-popular compact sports car market, sitting in line with models such as the Porsche 718 Cayman.

Little has been revealed about the A110, except that it will be based on a lightweight, full aluminium platform, and feature an aluminium upper body, too.

This material choice will ensure that the model stays as light as possible, and therefore offer an involving drive.

The new A110 is expected to mimic its forbearer in terms of engine layout, with a four-cylinder rear-mounted Renault powertrain suspected to feature.

Full specifications and details of the new Alpine A110 are due to be revealed at 12.15pm GMT on Tuesday March 7, at its official Geneva Motor Show unveiling.

Following this, the model is expected to hit the market in the latter part of this year.
