AMG power added to Mercedes E-Class Estate and GLC Coupe models

Mercedes has announced that it will be fitting its latest-generation E-Class Estate and GLC Coupe models with AMG’s twin-turbocharged 3.0-litre V6 engines.

Both cars offer exceptional levels of performance, with the new E 43 Estate able to reach 62mph in just 4.7 seconds thanks to an engine producing 396bhp. The GLC 43 meanwhile produces 362bhp, enabling it to hit 62mph in 4.9 seconds.

Both cars use Mercedes’ well-known nine-speed automatic gearbox, although AMG versions gain faster gear shifts and four-wheel-drive.

The GLC 43 Coupe will cost £50,960, sitting alongside the E 43 Estate which will retail for £58,420.

These two new engines come as a part of a range expansion for each model. Both cars can soon be specified with a 3.0-litre V6 diesel, which produces 255bhp. This costs from £47,135 in the GLC Coupe and £47,225 in the E-Class Estate.

E-Class Estates will also come with split-folding rear seats and a new 12.3-inch infotainment system. Customers can also specify another 12.3-inch screen to take the place of the conventional instrument dials, though for an additional £495.

The E-Class Estate has also gained a new entry-level engine – a 2.0-litre diesel engine found in the current E 220d saloon. This brings with it the best economy in the range, emitting just 109g/km CO2 and returning an impressive 65.7mpg.

Another optional extra for the E-Class Estate is a set of rear-facing bench seats. These are for use by children and can be stowed under the boot floor when not in use, allowing the conventional five-seater to be expanded to seat seven. This comes with a £1,250 premium.
