Aston Martin Cambridge creates Spitfire-inspired V12 Vantage S special edition

Aston Martin Cambridge has created a special edition of the V12 Vantage S sports car, designed to commemorate the 80th anniversary of the Supermarine Spitfire’s first flight.

Called the Aston Martin V12 Vantage S Spitfire 80, the new car is limited to just eight units. Created by the manufacturer’s in-house customisation division, Q by Aston Martin, the Spitfire 80 is a way for the car manufacturer to showcase the very best of British engineering, much like the plane that inspires it.

A number of the car’s components are being created by the Aircraft Restoration Company at IWM Duxford. These include the car’s tailpipe finishers, which feature a rainbow ‘bloom’ effect – just like a Spitfire’s exhaust stack. The company also crafted an aluminium rear cabin finisher, recreating the look of the plane’s strut brace.

Sterling silver Aston Martin badging is also included with the car, incorporating Old English White inlays. Owners of the car can also choose to have a Spitfire serial number lacquered on to the car’s sides.

Inside, there’s bespoke Spitfire 80 stitching on the headrests, complemented by saddle leather floor mats with sheepskin inserts.

The passenger airbag cover has also been embroidered with a unique identification code, while the car’s red webbing door pulls match those found on the original Spitfire aircraft.

Buyers of the car will also receive an Irvin jacket with the Spitfire 80 logo stitched inside, along with a flying helmet and goggles.

Those lucky enough to be able to purchase one of the cars will also be treated to a special handover day at the AirSpace exhibition in IWM Duxford, which was home to the first Spitfire squadron.
