Audi has pulled the covers off the new A5 Cabriolet before its arrival in the UK next month.

The new convertible shares its platform with the recently released A5 Coupe, and is 40kg lighter than the previous generation cabriolet.

As the new A5 Cabriolet has grown in size when compared to its predecessor, Audi is now claiming that there is more room for passengers. There has been an 18mm increase in rear knee room, while from passengers will benefit from 26mm more shoulder space.

Audi has also increased the A5 Cabriolet’s technological offering. The latest MMI infotainment system is now available, as is the Virtual Cockpit system. Customers will now be find seat belt microphones fitted as standard, too.

Coming as a part of the updated voice control system, Audi claims these microphones allow the system to better recognise commands from the driver, even with the canvas roof folded down.

There will be three engines available from launch: a 188bhp, 2.0-litre diesel, a 3.0-litre diesel producing 215bhp and a 248bhp 2.0-litre petrol. There will also be another 3.0-litre diesel with 282bhp and a 188bhp petrol made available at a later date.

Those customers seeking greater levels of performance will likely find the S5 Cabriolet, with its 349bhp turbocharged V6, a more appealing option.

According to Audi, the new engine range offers up to as much as 17 per cent more power, while using 22 per cent less fuel.

All models will be fitted with a six-speed manual gearbox as standard, while seven and eight-speed automatics can be fitted as optional extras. Customers will also be able to specify Audi’s Quattro four-wheel drive system.

The Cabriolet will be available in three different levels of trim: SE, Sport and S Line. The top-of-the-line models will be fitted with 18-inch wheels, satellite navigation, and three-zone climate control.

The S5, on the other hand, will be fitted with 19-inch alloys, model-specific styling and Super Sports seats.
