Audi unveils new e-tron Sportback Concept

Audi has announced its latest electric car at the Shanghai motor show.

The E-Tron Sportback Concept is an all-electric SUV, powered by a 429bhp motor. Thanks to instant power delivery, the E-Tron can go from 0-60mph in 4.3 seconds and has a range of 310 miles on a single charge.

The instantly delivered power also means the Quattro all-wheel-drive system used on the car can deliver instant torque, which makes overtaking much safer and more controlled.

The looks incorporate a sporty, coupe like design that makes the car stand out from the crowd. This is thanks to sharp front and rear end styling, both housing over 250 LED lights that illuminate the car.

Overall, it looks very muscular with sharp angled lines and chunky 23-inch alloy wheels. And thanks to its 4.9-metre length and near 2-metre width, it is close to the size of an Audi A7 and would look very imposing on the road.

At the front, LED headlamps are used along with cutting edge laser lighting and matrix LEDs to give the E-Tron Sportback some of the best lighting around.

A new safety feature is the external mirrors. On a traditional car they are large plastic housings with mirrored glass inside, but the E-Tron replaces these with very small cameras that feed information back to you via small display screens in the doors.

Not only does this reduce wind noise and improve vision, it also eliminates and blind spot where the mirror once was, handy for blind junctions and narrow streets.

Although currently a concept, the E-Tron Sportback is expected to go into production in 2019.
