Bernie Ecclestone to be celebrated at Goodwood Festival of Speed

Bernie Ecclestone’s illustrious career is to be celebrated at this year’s Goodwood Festival of Speed.

It’s the first time that an individual has been honoured rather than a single marque, and will see Ecclestone’s 40 years in motorsport showcased.

Lord March, the founder of the Goodwood Festival of Speed, said: “This is not so much a tribute, but rather a Goodwood celebration of a racer who has had such a huge influence on the sport that we all love.

“And now that Bernie has stepped aside from running Formula One, he has agreed to spend the weekend at the festival with many of the great names with whom he has worked during a life dedicated to racing. It’s his first visit to the festival and he will bring with him some great historic Grand Prix cars from his incredible collection.”

The sculpture placed outside Goodwood House will this year display cars from five different chapters of the former F1 boss’ life, including those as a racer, manager and team owner among others.

Ecclestone will be joined by various people from his career, including World Champions and former team members. The day will also include an undisclosed ‘key moment’ outside Goodwood House at 3pm.

The Goodwood Festival of Speed takes place from June 29 to July 2.
