BMW has revealed a prototype version of its 8 Series Concept, with a production version slated for release next year.

Last week, the car manufacturer pulled the wraps off the new concept coupe and it has already given us a look at what the hot version might look like.

Despite being wrapped in camouflage to hide its finer details, it is clear that the new M8 will have larger air intakes, improved brakes and a four-exit sports exhaust system.

Frank van Meel, president of BMW’s M Division, said:  “The future BMW M8 will build on the genes of the 8 Series and augment its DNA with added track ability and generous extra portions of dynamic sharpness, precision and agility. It all flows into a driving experience that bears the familiar BMW M hallmarks and satisfies our customers’ most exacting requirements.”

The company has also revealed that it is working on a motorsports version called BMW M8 GTE. It reckons the car will look “spectacular” when it makes its debut at the Daytona 24 Hours race in America in January 2018.

Built between 1989 and 1999, the original 8 Series has become a classic. After nearly two decades out of production, enthusiasts have been calling for BMW to build a new version of the large coupe.
