BMW owners are more likely to break the speed limit than owners of cars from other manufacturerers, new data has revealed.

Insurance company Admiral analysed data from more than 300,000 drivers, reviewing the highest examples of speeding for each make and model of car.

The top 10 per cent of highest speeders featured six different BMW models, more than any other manufacturer. Audi followed close behind, with four models appearing.

Twenty-five per cent of BMW M135i and 420d owners were found to be more likely to speed. The same figure applied to Audi Q5 owners. Bentley Continental drivers also fared rather poorly, with 31 per cent likely to drive dangerously.

Skoda drivers, on the other hand, were found to be the safest drivers. The Czech manufacturer’s cars appeared most frequently in the bottom 10 per cent of speeders.

Citigo, Superb and Felicia models were found to be least likely to be owned by drivers who regularly break the speed limit.

Justin Beddows from Admiral said: “It’s interesting how we can use our internal data to build up a picture of certain drivers, like how speeding is tied to certain car models.

“There’s definitely a trend in owners of more affordable cars being less likely to break the speed limit.

“The data doesn’t seek to tarnish certain drivers with the same brush, but rather show that these trends do exist.”
