BMW has announced the new 6 Series Gran Turismo, which will be launched later this year.

The 6 Series GT has been designed to replace the 5 Series GT, with the intention of delivering increased comfort and elegance, while also improving sporty driving dynamics and efficiency.

The car will debut at the IAA show in Frankfurt before going on sale on November 11, 2017. There will be a choice of three engines – a 258bhp 2.0-litre four-cylinder petrol, a 340bhp 3.0-litre six-cylinder petrol and a 265bhp 3.0-litre six-cylinder diesel.

The latter two engines will also be available with the BMW xDrive all-wheel-drive system. The petrol engines achieve 43.4mpg and 35.3mpg respectively, while the diesel is capable of 57.6mpg.

The 6 Series GT has an eye-catching aesthetic and a sporty stance. However, this does not impede passenger comfort. In fact, the car has more headroom than its predecessor, as well as plentiful legroom in the three rear seats.

Boot space has been increased too, both with the rear seats upright and folded down. There is 610 litres of space available, or 1,800-litres when the backrests are out of the way.

The BMW GT range was launched in 2009 to mix saloon luxury with the style of a coupé. The 6 Series GT further develops what the 5 Series GT set out to achieve by mixing comfort with sportiness.
