Citroen has announced that its quirky C4 Cactus crossover will soon be available with a six-speed automatic gearbox.

As of February 1, customer’s will be able to order the firm’s latest six-speed Efficient Automatic Transmission (EAT6) with their C4 Cactus.

Citroen has said the gearbox will be paired with its three-cylinder PureTech S&S engine, which develops 109bhp and has been awarded the title of International Engine of the Year in 2015 and 2016.

The manufacturer commented: “The EAT6 delivers a compelling blend of smooth power delivery, ultra-fast gear changes and dynamic efficiency.

“In addition, the new-generation transmission ensures excellent low-speed driveability thanks to a ‘creep’ function that is particularly convenient in congested traffic.”

When mated with the three-cylinder PureTech petrol engine, Citroen claims the automatic C4 Cactus can manage a combined fuel economy figure of 55.4mpg, while tailpipe emissions stand at 118 grams of CO2 per kilometre

The new transmission is only available on the flagship Flair trim level. This includes standard features such as satellite navigation, a seven-inch touchscreen infotainment system, rear parking sensors, reversing camera, Bluetooth connectivity and media streaming.

The automatic C4 Cactus will cost from £19,560.
