Italian company Caselini Automobili has teamed up with French automaker Citroen to create a special edition H-bodied version of its Relay van.

Called the Type H 70th Anniversary Van, its retro styling is inspired by the original Citroen H van that was manufactured between 1947 and 1981. It was used across thousands of French boulangeries, bakeries and even by the French fire brigade and police.

The original H van literally transformed French businesses because of its affordability and durability thanks to a body made of corrugated iron.

Today, though, it has something of a cult following and is the must-have accessory for any cool or funky business. Go to any music festival, for example, and you can be guaranteed that one will be selling tea and coffee or even ice cream.

The new version is a tribute to famous car designer Flaminio Bertoni, who actually designed the original H van nearly 70 years ago.

The Type H 70th is created by taking a standard Relay van and adding more than 70 new body parts. It transforms, getting all the technology and refinery of a new van with retro looks.

The kit costs from £36,070 and can be specified in a variety of colours and wheel combinations.

Any potential customers must send their interest to Caselini Automobili along with a deposit for £2,522 before finalising all the specification requirements they have.

It is available in several guises too, from standard panel van to a minibus or even an ‘all-terrain’ version.

Other compatible vans include the Peugeot Boxer and Fiat Ducato, from 2006 onwards. The kit will go on sale from 15 May.
