Classic Toyota owner makes unusual discovery during restoration

The owner of a classic Toyota made an unusual discovery when restoring her cherished 2000GT.

Jane Weitzemann found a bullet hole in the driver’s side door when bringing the imported car back to showroom condition. As the car had suffered crash-damage at the front, she believed that the accident could have been caused by the bullet, which would have passed through the car and into the driver’s thigh.

“We don’t have a lot of history on the car, but we did discover during the restoration there had been a bullet hole through the driver’s door. It would have hit the driver somewhere in the upper thigh, so that could account for the damage that had obviously been done to the front end at some point,” she said.

However, the bullet hole has now been repaired – and the car is back to almost-new condition. It has taken Weitzmann nine years to return the car to the condition, but she has just managed to complete the project in time for the model’s 50th anniversary.

“Toyotas have always been in our lives,” said Weitzmann. “One of my favourite vehicles in the collection is my old Toyota Land Cruiser, which again was brought over from Japan.”
