Dozens of Jaguar XJ220s set to come together in record breaking parade

Dozens of Jaguar XJ220 supercars are set to gather at the Silverstone Classic later this year in a world record parade.

The two-seater sports car was released a quarter of a century ago, with just 271 units created in its two years of production.

Powered by a 3.5-litre twin-turbocharged V6 producing 542bhp, the XJ220 was able to reach a top speed of 212.3mph – making it both Jaguar’s fastest-ever production car and, briefly, the fastest production car in the world.

Given how small production numbers were, fewer than two dozen of the vehicles have been seen together before. Now, organisers of the annual Classic event in partnership with Jaguar XJ220 specialists Don Law Racing are inviting owners to attend the July event.

Their aim is to bring as many of the 1990s hypercars together as possible.

“This will be a really special celebration of an often-overlooked supercar,” said Law.

“We will be bringing along some special models including the Martini car and the MIRA crash test car, and we are also hoping to have one of the factory Le Mans cars here.”

The XJ220 celebration will take place on Saturday, July 29, and will feature guests who have close ties with the car’s design, development and racing success.

While the number of cars attending the event has not been confirmed, Law added: “The largest public gathering of XJ220s in the UK to date is 20 – our aim for this summer’s Classic is to at least double that.”
