Eagle reveals stunning Spyder GT

Eagle’s new Spyder GT E-Type homage is now in production, after the first car rolled out of the company’s factory.

The specialist E-Type restoration company confirmed it would build the convertible Spyder at the 2016 London Classic Car Show, and the model now joins the range alongside the E-Type, Speedster and Low Drag GT.

Under the bonnet is a 4.7-litre straight-six XK-series engine with 330bhp and 461Nm of torque, meaning the car will sprint from a standstill to 60mph in less than five seconds before hitting a top speed of more than 170mph.

The car starts life as an E-Type convertible ready for restoration, and is hand-finished to showroom standard.

The whole thing weighs in at just over one tonne, giving it a power-to-weight ratio of 326bhp per tonne.

Much of the weight has been saved by dint of the aluminium construction, which sees the lightweight metal used in the monocoque, gearbox and engine.

Inside, the cabin is liberally wrapped in leather, while there’s also a sweeping centre console and a hidden handbrake lever.

Only a handful of Spyder GTs will be made, with Eagle describing the production run as “only a very few”.
