Faraday Future unveils its answer to Tesla’s Model X

New American car manufacturer Faraday Future has launched an electric SUV built to compete with Tesla’s Model X.

The four-door FF 91 was revealed at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas.

Full details are yet to be announced, but the firm has confirmed that the electric powertrain will deliver a peak power output of 1,050bhp. That results in a 0-60mph time of 2.1 seconds, which will make the FF 91 the fastest-accelerating production car in the world.

The motors take their power from a specially designed battery pack boasting a capacity of 130kWh – 100kWh more than the Nissan Leaf – allowing a maximum range of more than 700km (435 miles) on the European test cycle.

Faraday Future says the car will also have the fastest charging capability in the industry and will eventually be offered with wireless charging.

Inside, the FF 91 will have a fleet of on-board technology systems, including artificial intelligence that learns and improves with time.

Autonomous driving features will also be offered, with a valet parking feature that allows the car to park itself with no occupants, then return to the owner when summoned.

Faraday Future’s vice-president of propulsion engineering, Peter Savagian, said: “The future of true luxury and true performance is smoother, quieter, and with zero emissions. We no longer need to sacrifice our environment to enjoy cars to the fullest.”
