Honda announces Civic Type R Black Edition

Honda has unveiled a special edition if its Civic Type R performance hatchback.

The Type R Black Edition is limited to just 100 units, and has been created to commemorate the production of the current-generation car coming to an end. These 100 vehicles will be the final cars to come off the production line before manufacturing of the new car commences.

The all-new Civic is being built at the company’s factory in Swindon, and is set to go on sale in March. The new Civic Type R is expected to arrive in UK dealerships during the second half of this year.

The help differentiate it from the standard Type R, the Black Edition features certain styling changes such as red rear wing end plates and red accents throughout the cabin.

Pricing is based on the current GT model, with the Black Edition retailing for £32,000.

A 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine sits under the bonnet, producing 306bhp and 400Nm torque.

Phil Webb, head of cars at Honda UK, said: “There are only going to be 2,500 of the current Civic Type Rs on UK roads, so the car is going to be pretty special as it is – but with the addition of this special limited run of 100 Black Editions to the product line-up, owners will have a real collector’s piece on their hands.”
