Honda Civic Type R prices and spec announced

Honda has announced prices for its all-new Civic Type R.

Unveiled at the 2017 Geneva Motor Show back in March, the Civic Type R is the performance version of the Japanese family hatchback.

It features a 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine that develops 316bhp and an impressive 400Nm of torque – very handy for safely overtaking.

Drivers have a choice of either the standard Type R or they can upgrade to the GT variant for an extra £2,000.

In GT trim, the car comes as standard with some extra goodies, including a blind spot information system, dual-zone climate control, automatically dimming rear-view mirror, Honda Connect satellite navigation system, wireless mobile phone charging for your phone and LED front fog-lights.

Phil Webb, head of cars at Honda UK, said: “As with the previous generation, we are fully expecting a huge demand for the Civic Type R. The order bank is already open and we are experiencing strong interest off the back of the launch at the Geneva Motor Show in March – and this is before our customers have even taken a test drive.”

The Type R costs from £30,995 in standard form and £32,995 in GT trim. This prices it alongside other hot hatchback rivals such as the Volkswagen Golf R, which has 306bhp, Audi S3 with 296bhp and BMW M140i with 335bhp.

The all-new Civic Type R has also set a blistering lap record round the Nurburgring, completing the 12.9-mile track in seven minutes and 43 seconds.

Cars will be available on the forecourt from July this year.
