Hyundai IONIQ goes on sale in the UK

Hyundai’s new IONIQ has arrived in UK showrooms, with both all-electric and hybrid layouts now on sale.

The IONIQ is the first car to be offered in three powertrains, with hybrid, electric and plug-in electric versions all available. The latter, however, is due to arrive in the UK sometime during 2017.

The Hybrid offers exceptionally good economy figures. Thanks to a combined fuel consumption figure of 83.1mpg, it can achieve a total range of around 846 miles. Thanks to CO2 figures of just 79g/km, it’s vehicle tax exempt, too.

There are three IONIQ Hybrid specifications to choose from: Hybrid, Hybrid Premium and Hybrid Premium SE. Even base specification cars get 15-inch alloy wheels, Bluetooth connectivity and rear parking sensors.

Alongside the IONIQ Hybrid is the all-electric version. This is able to travel around 174 miles on battery power alone, while also offering consumers features such as automatic windscreen wipers, 16-inch alloy wheels and LED headlamps.

Thanks to standard rapid charge compatibility, the IONIQ Electric can be charged up to 80 per cent in as little as 33 minutes. When using a domestic charger, the IONIQ electric can be fully charged in around 4 and a half hours.

The IONIQ Hybrid range starts at £19,995, while the IONIQ Electric comes in at £26,495, inclusive of the plug-in grant of £4,500.

Tony Whitehorn, president and CEO of Hyundai Motor UK, said: “This is a landmark car for Hyundai. Not only is the all-new IONIQ the world’s first car to offer three electrified powertrains, but it’s also our first move into the electrified sector in Europe. We have listened to our customers and we have responded with a full portfolio of electrified models, making low- to zero- emissions mobility more accessible to more people.”
