Kia reveals European specifications for hot new Stinger fastback

Kia has announced the European specification for the Stinger fastback, which debuted at the Detroit motor show early this month.

Customers will be able to choose from three engines – a 2.2-litre diesel, a 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol and the top-of-the-line 3.3-litre turbocharged V6 petrol.

The diesel unit produces 197bhp and is shared with the Sorento SUV. With this engine, the Stinger can accelerate from 0-60mph in 8.3 seconds and hit a top speed of 140mph.

The 2.0-litre and 3.3-litre petrol engines produce 252bhp and 370bhp respectively. The latter enables the Stinger to complete the 0-60mph sprint in around five seconds before hitting a top speed of 168mph.

All engines will be paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission. Kia will also offer the Stinger with rear- and four-wheel drive configurations.

The South Korean manufacturer honed the Stinger’s handling capabilities at the Nürburgring Nordschleife. The car features electronically adjustable dampers that provide a softer ride in Comfort mode, and sharper dynamic abilities in Sport and Sport Plus modes.

The Stinger also utilises an electronically-assisted power steering system, which lend the sportier driving modes more responsiveness and improved feedback compared with the comfort- and economy-orientated modes.

The cabin is tech-heavy, with a head-up display complemented by a touchscreen infotainment system, as well as a choice of in-car hi-fi systems.

Kia has also fitted its new vehicle with a wealth of safety assistance equipment, including autonomous emergency braking, driver attention monitoring and blind-spot monitoring.

The Stinger will hit showroom floors in the fourth quarter of the year, with pricing announced closer to the time.
