Land Rover confirms new Range Rover Velar ahead of March premiere

Land Rover is to unveil its latest, middle-of-the-range Range Rover on March 1.

The five-door Velar will sit between the Range Rover Evoque and Range Rover Sport in the luxury line-up, and has been described by its maker as “the avant-garde Range Rover”.

A photo teased on Twitter shows the Velar from behind and above. It appears to share a number of similarities, such as a prominent rear spoiler and a low roofline, with the Evoque – Land Rover’s most successful model ever.

However, it will feature a slightly squatter, wider stance and despite the low roofline, the Velar that appears in the teased photo is in a five-door guise.

A panoramic sunroof on the model reveals that the latest-generation InControl infotainment system will take pride of place in the cabin.

The model is expected to be powered by the same 2.0-litre diesel as found in the Evoque and Jaguar F-Pace. However, the 3.0-litre V6 diesel from the F-Pace S may also feature.

Land Rover’s chief design officer, Gerry McGovern, said: “We call the Velar the avant-garde Range Rover. It brings a new dimension of glamour, modernity and elegance to the brand. The Range Rover Velar changes everything.”
