LIV-2 concept set to preview new Rexton at Paris show

SsangYong’s new LIV-2 concept will preview the next-generation Rexton when it is revealed at the Paris Motor Show on September 29.

A SsangYong statement said the LIV-2 will be powered by the company’s own 2.2-litre diesel engine, although an all-new 2.0-litre petrol engine is also expected to feature in markets outside the UK.

The South Korean firm says the 2.2-litre engine will conform to Euro VI standards and offers “powerful yet efficient performance”.

SsangYong also claims that the concept will also get “high levels of safety” and a fully equipped interior with “a suite of advanced communication technologies”.

Judging by the sketches provided by SsangYong, the next Rexton seems to inherit many of the smaller Tivoli’s design cues, such as the bulky wings front and rear, in addition to a narrow front grille and a thick D-pillar.

The company’s UK CEO, Paul Williams, has said that the LIV-2 is “very close” to the finalised car, which is expected to premiere at next year’s Geneva Motor Show before arriving in the UK in September 2017.

Inside, the main addition is a large touchscreen infotainment system, which is set to incorporate systems such as satellite navigation.

Williams claims the cabin is a big improvement on what has gone before, saying: “When we brought out Tivoli we were impressed by the interior. When people see the new Rexton it’ll demonstrate that we’ve moved on even further.”
