Geely Auto Group, the Chinese parent company of Volvo, has launched a new car brand named Lynk & Co.

The new company will manufacture a range of premium vehicles in Sweden, and says it will offer consumers some of the most cutting-edge in-car technology.

Alain Visser, senior vice president of Lynk & Co, said: “This is Lynk & Co – introducing a premium, state-of-the-art range of cars – at the more accessible of price points, challenging and redesigning every link in the chain. Our aim is to enrich and simplify car ownership by redefining how they are bought, owned, connected, serviced and used.”

The Lynk & Co 01 SUV will be the first model launched by the brand. Future models will follow the numeric naming pattern, with the second car being called the 02, the third the 03 and so on.

A range of efficient engines will power the 01 when it is launched, and will drive the wheels through a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission to ensure high levels of refinement.

Plenty of safety technology will also find its way into the 01, including Autonomous Emergency Braking, Front Collision Warning and pedestrian detection.

Andreas Nilsson, head of Geely Design Sweden, said: “The design brief for Lynk & Co was simple: the cars should stand out from the crowd and appeal to a truly global audience.

“From a distance, we have a European design approach. Get closer, and you see more and more detail, such as the intricate lights, and the type of grain on the interior leather. A strong wide grille completes the distinctive ‘face’ of the car. We wanted to acknowledge that our users are extremely tech-savvy – a smartphone is an integral part of their lives and our interior design reflects that and feels familiar in the context of new technology.”

The Lynk & Co 01 is expected to go on sale in Britain in 2017.
