McLaren passes 10,000th car milestone

McLaren has reached a significant milestone, with the 10,000th car rolling off the production line at its manufacturing facility in Woking.

The 10,000th car happened to be a 570S finished in Ceramic Grey. It came just over five years after the first car, a McLaren 12C, was finished.

Mike Flewitt, McLaren Automotive CEO, said: “The production of the 10,000th McLaren is a significant milestone in the short history of the company.

“The fact that it took us 42 months to build our 5,000th car and just 22 months to build the next 5,000 speaks volumes about the pace of development of the company.

“Much of that development is thanks to the introduction of the Sports Series family of cars and it’s therefore fitting that the 10,000th car is a McLaren 570S.”

A second shift was incorporated into the daily workings of the McLaren Production Centre earlier this year to cope with increase production. This came with the introduction of the 540C, 570S and 570GT Sports Series cars. This grew production from 10 cars per day to 20 per day.

This year was also the company’s third year of profitability in the five years that it has been producing road cars. The company is still on schedule to double its sales this year compared with 2015. Last year, McLaren produced 1,654, compared with 3,000 this year.
