Mercedes announces £40,000 price tag for new E-Class Coupe

Mercedes has confirmed that its sleek new E-Class Coupe will start from £40,135 when it arrives in the UK in April.

Order books are already open for the two-door E-Class, which is available with a choice of three engines and just one trim level.

The entry level power unit is the 192bhp 2.0-litre diesel, dubbed 220d. Though it takes the E-Class Coupe from 0-60mph in 7.2 seconds, it is also capable of returning as much as 61.4mpg on the combined cycle while emitting 119g of carbon dioxide per kilometre.

For a mere £890 more, customers can upgrade to the 300 – a 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine. Producing 241bhp, cars fitted with this engine will get from a standstill to 60mph in just 6.2 seconds and return 40.4mpg with 160g/km CO2 emissions.

The range-topper, however, is the 400 model, which costs £50,775. Using a 3.0-litre V6 with two turbochargers, this variant sends 329bhp to all four wheels and boasts a 5.1-second 0-60mph time.

No matter which engine is specified, the car will be equipped with a nine-speed automatic transmission, satellite navigation, part-leather upholstery and a reversing camera.

The E 300 will also get a sports exhaust, while the E 400 will benefit from a larger 12.3-inch infotainment screen that’s optional on other variants.

Other options include the £1,695 Driving Assistance package, which provides autonomous emergency braking and radar-guided cruise control, and the £3,895 Premium Plus package, which includes a Burmeister sound system, panoramic sunroof and memory seats, among other goodies.
