Mercedes-Benz’s new Marco Polo camper van is now available to order with prices starting at £53,180.

The V-Class-based van will hit British roads in the spring, and comes fully stocked with kitchen facilities, a sofa bed and a roof bed.

Entry-level Sport models also come with wood flooring, a camping table and swivelling seats, plus the usual V-Class accoutrements of three-zone climate control, leather upholstery and satellite navigation.

External power and fresh water connections are also standard, along with a rear-view camera, tinted rear windows and an electronically operated pop-up roof.

Upgrading to the AMG Line models, which start at £55,320, buys larger 19-inch alloy wheels, an AMG body kit and sports suspension.

The basic engine is the 2.1-litre 220d diesel, which produces 161bhp. Official figures claim it will return around 45mpg on the combined cycle, while emitting carbon dioxide at a rate of 166g/km.

The 250d variant, meanwhile, uses the same engine block and returns the same fuel economy, but it is marginally more polluting, at 169g/km and 26bhp more powerful. It also commands a hefty premium, costing £1,875 more than the equivalent 220d.

Both powerplants come with a seven-speed automatic transmission as standard.
