MG unveil its all-new XS SUV

MG Motor UK has announced a new vehicle.

The MG XS is the latest model to enter the value-for money segment of the SUV market that consists of cars such as the Ssangyong Tivoli and Dacia Duster.

In 2016 MG introduced the larger GS SUV, but the new model has a much more sleek appearance at the front end than its sibling. It also looks sportier and more rugged thanks to flared wheel arches, chunky alloy wheels, silver roof rails and lots of chrome trim.

Inside it is the same story with an optional leather interior, sat nav and carbon-fibre effect trim throughout.

Costing from £15,095, the bigger MG GS is available with a 1.5-litre turbo petrol engine with a six -speed manual or seven-speed automatic gearbox, as well as a host of upgraded technology.

Similar engines and gearboxes will be available in the new XS, which is designed to sit between the GS and MG3 city car in its current model lineup.

Matthew Cheyne, head of sales and marketing for MG, said: “The MG XS will be a real game-changer in the compact SUV marketplace. The meaning behind the name is simple – S stands for SUV, X means extra.

“Featuring state-of-the-art driver technology and innovative design, the new model builds on our growing reputation for capability, performance and quality, positioned at a highly affordable price – the customer gets extra, for less.”

Full specification and trim details will be announced at a later date. Customers can pre-book test-drives and even pre-order their car online now, however.

The XS was unveiled at the London Motor Show on May 4 and will be arriving in dealerships later on in the year.
