Mini has announced that an upgraded version its Connected service will now be available from the App Store, featuring a personal mobility system.

The service, which hopes to increase the levels of functionality within the car’s infotainment system, aids route planning as well as traffic avoidance.

All of these features will come from the driver’s iPhone, utilising an app which can be downloaded from the App Store. An Android version is currently in development.

Mini Connected makes a clear connection between the app and the car, with the phone linked by either USB cable or Bluetooth connection.

It can even take addresses and appointments stored in the phone’s calendar and use them to plan journeys. Able to determine the location, it can then work out a route between there and a pre-set destination.

Places of interest can even be carried over from other apps and set as a destination in the navigation system.

Users of the app can also see how much fuel is in their car before setting off, with this function reducing time spent filling up.

Those drivers who own a Cooper S E Countryman ALL4 are also able to see how much electrical charge remains in their car, along with the overall range of the vehicle.

The app is now available on the Apple App Store, and is free to download.
