New Lotus Elise Cup 250 revealed in full

This is the new Lotus Elise Cup 250, a lighter and faster version of the British carmaker’s popular sports car.

Sitting at the top of the Elise range – excluding the track-only Elise Race 250 – the Elise Cup 250 is powered by a 1.8-litre engine that produces 240bhp. This enables the little Lotus to accelerate to 60mph from a standstill in 3.9 seconds, before maxing out at 154mph.

Lotus has worked hard to keep the Elise Cup 250’s weight down. Dry, the new car weighs in at just 884kg, and can be brought down to 860kg if all the lightweight options are selected.

Contributing to this low weight are a polycarbonate rear window, ultra-lightweight alloys, a lithium-ion battery and carbon race seats. Customers can also specify optional two-piece brake discs, as well as a titanium exhaust system.

Visually, the Elise Cup 250 has been fitted with a new front bumper, a sizeable rear wing and a redesigned back-end.

Lotus CEO Jean-Marc Gales said: “The Elise Cup 250 is the latest edition in an exciting period for the company which has seen us launch a number of very special new cars across our entire range.

“The power and aerodynamic prowess of the new Elise Cup 250 has taken the fight beyond the reach of lesser rivals and, at just 860kg, it shows that we are ahead of the curve in delivering lightweight, intelligently engineered sports cars.”

Prices for the Lotus Elise Cup 250 start at £47,400.
