New Picanto revealed ahead of Geneva debut

Kia has shown off the first images of the new Picanto two months before the car makes its global debut at the Geneva Motor Show in March.

Set to go on sale in the spring, the city car boasts a fresh new look and improved practicality compared with its predecessor.

Although the newcomer is the same length as the outgoing car, it has a slightly longer wheelbase, meaning the wheels are closer to the corners of the car. Kia says this helps give it a “more assertive” stance.

The car also benefits from a redesigned front end with narrow, angular headlights and, on the high-spec GT-Line car seen in these images, pronounced air intakes. There is also a sporty-looking red stripe that runs almost all the way around the car.

Inside, Kia claims the car is more spacious thanks to improved packaging and the movement of the wheels to the outer corners.

The cabin has been completely redesigned, with a central touchscreen sitting proud of the dashboard to provide a focal point. There’s a new steering wheel, too, which has been taken from larger models such as the Sportage and Optima.

Pricing and specifications are not yet known, but it is thought that more details will surface when the car is revealed in Geneva.
