One-millionth Porsche 911 rolls off production line

Porsche is celebrating a significant milestone after producing its one-millionth 911.

The two-door sports car has been in production since 1963 and remains a crucial part of the German manufacturer’s line-up.

The one-millionth car in question is a Carrera S finished in ‘Irish Green’. It comes fitted with a unique plaque commemorating the occasion, as well as a range of touches designed to pay tribute to the first 911 ever produced.

Wolfgang Porsche, chairman of the supervisory board at Porsche AG, said: “Fifty-four years ago, I was able to take my first trips over the Grossglockner High Alpine Road with my father in a 911. The feeling of being in a 911 is just as enjoyable now as it was then. That’s because the 911 has ensured that the core values of our brand are as visionary today as they were in the first Porsche 356/1 from 1948.”

While the one-millionth 911 is still being held by Porsche AG, it will soon undertake a world tour, setting out on road trips through the UK, USA and China, as well as completing a lap of the famous Nurburgring in Germany.

The 911 remains a successful car for the company – 32,356 cars were delivered in 2016 alone. Porsche also claim that 70 per cent of all 911 vehicles are still on the road today.
