Porsche unveils 911 GT2 RS at Goodwood

Porsche has officially revealed its much-anticipated 911 GT2 RS at the 2017 Goodwood Festival of Speed.

The GT2 RS was first showcased at the E3 gaming expo in California in June, but this is the first time that the German sports car manufacturer has officially revealed the car to the public.

Powered by a twin-turbocharged flat-six engine, the GT2 RS produces 690bhp and 750Nm of torque – making it the most powerful street-legal 911 ever made.

It’ll take just 2.7 seconds to hit 60mph, and can reach a top speed of 211mph.

Utilising the same 3.8-litre engine as in the 911 Turbo S, Porsche has upped the car’s performance by adding larger turbochargers as well as a new water cooling system. All power is sent to the rear wheels through a seven-speed dual-clutch PDK gearbox.

The GT2 RS uses a number of weight-saving materials to ensure its overall mass stays as low as possible. These include carbon-fibre panelling, a magnesium roof and ceramic composite brakes. It weighs in at 1,470kg, inclusive of a full tank of petrol.

For an extra £23,905, Porsche will fit the GT2 RS with its Weissach Pack that brings down the car’s weight by an extra 18kg. It adds magnesium wheels and additional carbon-fibre parts including the roof and anti-roll bars.

The interior is finished in red Alcantara, black leather and carbon fibre. The Porsche Communcation Management system houses audio functions, as well as satellite navigation and phone connectivity.

The new Porsche GT2 RS will cost from £207,506 in the UK.
