Seat named as sponsor for the Superbike World Championship

Seat has been named as a sponsor for the forthcoming Superbike World Championship.

As part of the deal, a Leon Cupra – the most powerful model the Spanish manufacturer has ever produced – will act as the official safety car for the duration of the 13-race tournament.

The Leon safety car will make its debut during the competition’s first leg, which will take place at Australia’s Phillip Island Circuit on February 24.

Antonio Labate, director of strategy, business development and operations at Seat Sport, said: “We are very pleased to partner with the Superbike championship with the Leon Cupra as the official safety car, as it gives us the ideal platform to demonstrate our model’s features and performance. We hope the fans enjoy seeing the car both on and off the track during the events.”

Marc Saurina, sales and marketing director of WorldSBK, added: “We welcome the arrival of the Seat Leon Cupra to the Superbike World Championship.

“The positioning of the Seat Leon Cupra fully matches our championship, where fan experience is an essential part of our identity.”

The Seat Leon Cupra is powered by a 2.0-litre turbocharged engine that enables the hot hatchback to sprint from zero to 60mph in just 4.7 seconds, meaning it should have more than enough pace to act as the championship’s safety car.
