Skoda has unveiled its new Kodiaq SUV in Germany’s capital, Berlin.

Taking design elements from the current generation Skoda Superb, the Kodiaq has a striking design made up of angular lines and the brand’s trademark vertical bar grille.

Inside, the Kodiaq is able to claim best-in-class seats-down luggage space of 2,065 litres, with this falling to a still respectable 720 litres with the seats up. Top spec cars will be offered with seven seats.

A new 6.5-inch touchscreen dominates the centre of the cabin, incorporating all of the car’s infotainment features. Though fitted as standard, it can be replaced with an eight-inch system as an optional extra.

The in-car communication system can pick up the driver’s voice and play it through the car’s rear speakers, which allows passengers in the back to hear them more easily. There’s also a special off-road display and an optional wireless hotspot.

A new 360-degree top-down camera is fitted, which makes parking the Kodiaq a lot easier. A trailer assistance system is also included, which can take over the car’s steering when reversing with a trailer attached.

Upon launch, two diesel and three petrol engines will be available to choose from, ranging from a 1.4-litre to a 2.0-litre. The most economical of the range is the is the 148bhp diesel, which is capable of returning 56.5mpg and emitting just 131g/km CO2.

Bernhard Maier, CEO for Skoda, said: “With our first large SUV, we are conquering a new segment for the brand – and new customer groups.”
