Skoda reveals new Octavia vRS 245

Skoda has lifted the lid on its new Octavia vRS 245, ahead of its official debut at next month’s Geneva International Motor Show.

Powered by a 2.0-litre diesel engine, the uprated Octavia produces 242bhp, allowing it to reach 60mph in just 6.4 seconds while on its way to a top speed of 155mph. The estate variant manages the dash to 60mph in 6.5 seconds.

As standard, the Octavia vRS 245 comes with a six-speed manual gearbox, though customers are able to specify a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission also.

However, Skoda hasn’t just made changes to the Octavia’s engine. The Czech manufacturer has also fitted it with a electronically regulated limited-slip differential, aiding handling and agility.

Changes have also been made to the exterior of the car. It now features a wider grille, as well as honeycomb inlets in the front grille that give it a more aggressive look on the road.

Large, 19-inch gloss black alloy wheels have also been fitted, along with black radiator slats and trapezoid tailpipes.

Both the front and rear of the car feature LED headlights, which give better levels of visibility – especially in difficult conditions.

The car’s overall ride height has also been lowered by 14mm compared to the standard car, giving a sportier ride as well as a more imposing look.

Inside, the Octavia benefits from sports seats trimmed in Alcantara, as well as a multifunction leather steering wheel. A Columbus infotainment system is also available as an optional extra, which is controlled via a 9.2-inch touchscreen housing satellite navigation and internet connectivity.

The Geneva International Motor Show runs from March 9-19.
