Skoda reveals new Octavia vRS

Skoda has unveiled the faster, more focused version of its new Octavia hatchback – the 227bhp vRS.

The 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine under the bonnet sends power to the front wheels via a six-speed manual transmission, permitting a 6.5-second 0-60mph time and a top speed of 155mph.

As an option, customers will also be able to specify a six-speed, twin-clutch automatic transmission, although Skoda has not confirmed how this will affect the performance.

A diesel engine will also be available, with a 181bhp output and a 0-60mph time of 7.7 seconds and a 144mph top speed. Despite this performance, however, the diesel still manages official fuel economy figures of 62.8mpg and 119g/km CO2 emissions.

Regardless of engine choice, customers will be treated to sports suspension that sits 15mm lower than the standard car’s, while the rear track is 30mm wider. Red brake callipers are also fitted as standard, and they lurk behind 18-inch alloy wheels.

On the outside, the vRS benefits from the latest modifications to the Octavia family. There’s now a wider grille with enlarged air intakes, full LED headlights are standard and there’s an adaptive front lighting system.

Inside, the latest-generation infotainment systems have been applied, along with driver assistance systems such as blind-spot monitoring and improved autonomous emergency braking.

The new vRS will be available in estate and hatchback guises.
