Skoda reveals updated Octavia Scout

Skoda has unveiled the updated Octavia Scout ahead of its arrival in the UK next year.

The new model gets the same headlight and grille design as the standard Octavia Estate, but this is supplemented by a 30mm increase in ride height and some tough-looking body cladding.

Scout customers will be able to choose from two derivatives of the Octavia’s 2.0-litre diesel engine – one with 148bhp and one with 181bhp – but both will offer four-wheel drive as standard.

The less powerful unit, which is mated to a manual transmission, will return 56.5mpg on the combined cycle, but the more potent engine, with its automatic gearbox, will only be slightly less efficient, hitting 55.4mpg.

Both engines also get an electronic differential lock as standard, which is designed to make for smoother get-aways on low-traction surfaces.

Other electronic gizmos on board include the hill descent control system, which is linked to the cruise control and can maintain a constant speed over rough terrain.

Driver assistance features play a key role on the Scout’s equipment list, with Trailer Assist and blind-spot monitoring both offered, along with a Crew Protect Assist, which closes the windows if it detects a crash.

Inside, the Scout is offered with a top-of-the-range infotainment system offering a 9.2-inch touchscreen and satellite navigation, as well as a WiFi hotspot.
