Smart announces new ‘Pure’ entry level trim

Mini marvel Smart has announced a new entry-level trim to its range.

The Pure line, available on both the Forfour and Fortwo, strips the car back to basics to keep costs as low as possible. The German manufacturer considers this the Smart “in its purest form”.

This trim is only available with the smaller of Smart’s engine offerings; a 1.0-litre, 71bhp three-cylinder, mated to a five-speed manual transmission as standard.

In keeping with the theme, Smart’s trademark vibrance has been toned down for the Pure line, with the famed safety cell coming in black, and body panels coming in either black or white.

Adding a splash of colour is a £300 option.

It’s more of the same inside, although the all-black interior is complemented by the Comfort Pack as standard.

This brings a height-adjustable driver’s seat and steering column, and heated and electrically-adjustable wing mirrors.

The infotainment system will be familiar to anyone who has sat in a current-gen Smart, with AUX/USB interface, Bluetooth capability with hands-free system, audio streaming for music transfer and Smart cross-connect for iOS and Android all par for the course.

The Pure’s 15-inch steel wheels will take the Fortwo or Forfour from 0-62mph in 14.4 seconds, all the way up to a top speed of 94mph.

When you’re not chasing these numbers, you can expect the 71bhp motor to return a combined total of 68.9mpg.

Available to order now, the Pure line will be an option until the end of the year, with the Fortwo Coupe starting at just £9,995, and the Forfour coming in at £10,490.
