Smart, the maker of small city cars, is set to reveal the fourth-generation of its Electric Drive models at the Paris Motor Show later this week.

The German company is the only car manufacturer to sell both combustion- and electric-powered versions of its entire model range.

Annette Winkler, head of Smart, said: “The Smart is the perfect city car, and with Electric Drive it becomes a little bit more perfect.

“This is why we will soon be offering our entire range – Smart Fortwo, Smart Cabrio and even Smart Forfour – as all-electric versions.

“Together with lots of Smart fans and enthusiastic drivers of the three predecessor generations, we are looking forward to the unique driving fun offered by the new Smart Electric Drive. And at very attractive prices, especially in countries where there is a buyer’s premium.”

The new all-electric Smart cars have a range of approximately 100 miles, and are at home when used on shorter urban trips. An exceptionally small turning circle of 6.95 metres allows for superior maneuverability, particularly in crowded city centres.

The car will be available with a 22kW fast charger when it becomes available in 2017. This will enable buyers to charge the Smart in around 45 minutes.

It will hit showroom floors in the UK in early 2017, with prices for the all-electric Smart Fortwo starting at just over £19,000 and slightly less than £22,000 for the Cabrio model.
