Volkswagen has added a sportier trim line to its popular Transporter van – Sportline.

The new trim sits above the Highline in the Transporter range, with the aim of providing a sportier-looking van with added technology. It is priced from £36,295 plus VAT.

The new trim will only be available on the T32 Kombi to begin with, although further variants are expected to receive the same treatment later in the year, in time for 2017 deliveries.

The new model is differentiated from the rest of the range through 18-inch two-tone alloy wheels, as well as lowered suspension and sportier bumpers for both front and rear.

Inside, the interior has been treated to some added extras. Leather upholstery is included, as is air conditioning and a heated windscreen. Satellite navigation is also fitted as standard, controlled through a large central touchscreen.

Parking sensors for the front and rear of the car are also included, along with LED lights. There’s even App Connect, which allows ‘seamless’ integration between a smartphone and the car’s infotainment system.

The Sportline is powered by a 2.0-litre turbocharged diesel engine, which produces 178bhp, sent through a seven-speed automatic gearbox. Emitting just 195 grams of C02 per kilometre, the Sportline is on par with rivals in terms of efficiency.

A more powerful 201bhp diesel engine is due to join the existing unit at a later date, along with a six-speed manual transmission.

Order books for the Sportline Kombi are open now, with first deliveries expected to arrive in September.
