Toyota reveals pricing for new Prius plug-in

The new plug-in hybrid Toyota Prius went on sale today, with an on-the-road price of £34,895.

Customer deliveries are set to commence on March 1, with the Prius being available in two trim levels from launch.

The entry-level price, which includes a £2,500 government grant, gets the Business Edition trim. This includes features such as Toyota’s Touch 2 with Go infotainment system, a rear-view camera, DAB radio and automatic LED headlights.

Also included as standard are a two-zone climate control system, as well as the Toyota Safety Sense system that features lane departure warning, adaptive cruise control and traffic sign recognition.

The flagship Excel models will cost an extra £2,200 and gain rain-sensing wipers, leather upholstery and an uprated sound system.

Both variants will feature a revised version of the Prius’ plug-in hybrid powertrain, which combines a 1.8-litre petrol engine with a pair of electric motors for a 121bhp power output.

Toyota claims the Prius can manage 283mpg, and has an all-electric range of more than 30 miles. It can reach a top speed of 84mph in electric mode, and emits 22g/km of CO2.

This is achieved through the use of a new lithium-ion battery that has doubled in volume but only increase in size by two-thirds. An optional solar panel roof can charge it as well as store power when the vehicle is parked, sending it to the battery once the car is started.
