Unique Ferrari heads to auction to raise funds for Italian earthquake victims

A special Ferrari LaFerrari hypercar is due to be auctioned off by RM Sotheby’s this weekend to raise money for those affected by the earthquakes that devastated parts of central Italy earlier this year.

The Italian manufacturer was initially due to build 499 examples of the LaFerrari, until Sergio Marchionne, chairman and CEO of Ferrari, announced that one more would be produced and auctioned for charity – with the proceeds going towards the rebuilding effort.

This particular LaFerrari was created as a gift from Ferrari to Italy. It features a bespoke livery and interior, which have been designed as a tribute to the country. It also is fitted with a special plaque to commemorate the occasion.

Rob Myers, CEO and chairman of RM Sotheby’s, said: “It is an honour for RM Sotheby’s to be entrusted with the sale of this important car and to help raise significant funds for a desperate cause.

“The earthquakes which have struck central Italy this year devastated the lives of thousands of people, and the money raised by the sale of this LaFerrari could not be put to better use.

“The auction will be a historic event, and the generosity of Ferrari SpA will change lives in the areas most affected by the natural disaster.”

The auction is set to take place on December 3 during the Ferrari Finali Mondiali weekend at the Daytona International Speedway in Florida.
