Unique Ferrari LaFerrari raises £5.5 million for Italian earthquake relief fund

A unique Ferrari LaFerrari that headed to auction to raise money for the Italian earthquake relief fund has sold for £5.5 million.

The car, which was produced especially by Ferrari and auctioned by RM Sotheby’s, went under the hammer in collaboration with the National Italian American Foundation’s Earthquake Relief Fun. It is not only the 500th LaFerrari to be built, but also the last.

All proceeds from the auction, which took place at the Ferrari Finali Mondiali weekend at the Daytona International Speedway in Florida, will go towards reconstruction efforts.

RM Sotheby’s hosted the auction free of charge, in the hope that its expertise could help raise the highest amount of money.

Its work did not go unrewarded, as the price that the LaFerrari achieved set a record as the most valuable 21st century automobile ever sold at auction.

The LaFerrari features a red exterior with white “dream lines” on the bonnet and rear windscreen. The bonnet also features a small Italian flag to signify that the car is a gift from Ferrari to Italy. There’s also a commemorative plaque.

Ferrari announced that it would be donating the one-of-a-kind Ferrari to the earthquake rebuild cause on August 31.
