Updated Volkswagen Golf GTE goes on sale

The latest edition of Volkswagen’s Golf GTE is available to order now, priced at £3,420 less than the outgoing model.

The updated hatch benefits from two trim levels – the entry level version and GTE Advance – plus a host of new features.

Powered by a 1.4-litre turbocharged petrol engine mated to an electric motor, the GTE produces 201bhp. However, despite this performance it is still able to offer a claimed range of 514 miles, while the battery gives an all-electric range of 31 miles. The standard GTE emits just 38g/km CO2, while the GTE Advance has slightly poorer emission figures, emitting 40g/km CO2. The former has a claimed fuel consumption of 166mpg, while the latter is 157mpg.

However, these impressive economy figures do not come at the expense of power. The GTE achieves the sprint to 60mph in 7.4 seconds, and it can carry on accelerating to a top speed of 138mph.

The model also boasts a variety of driving modes, with GTE mode adding further power by combining the instant torque of the electric motor with the full power of the petrol engine.

Director of Volkswagen in the UK, Alison Jones, said: “The new Golf GTE – with its revised pricing and significantly enhanced appeal – perfectly represents Volkswagen’s ongoing commitment to offering accessible hybrid technology in an attractive and usable package.

“The updated Golf GTE, sitting alongside the rest of the 113-model updated Golf range, is more than ever a genuine alternative for everyday driving and we are looking forward to seeing more private buyers, and fleet users, take the opportunity to explore its capabilities on UK roads.”

The standard GTE will cost from £30,635, while the GTE Advance starts at £32,135.
