Vauxhall has confirmed that it will build a new ‘X’ crossover vehicle called the Crossland X.
Set to join the Mokka X in the manufacturer’s vehicle line up in 2017, the Crossland X will help Vauxhall capitalise on the popularity of what it calls “sporty and spacious crossover and SUV products”.
Vauxhall says the newcomer is aimed at customers who require ease-of-use in urban environments, as well as sufficient power and comfort for long-distance cruising.
Vauxhall’s chairman and managing director, Rory Harvey, said: “Our customers’ expectations are changing, so the timing is perfect for an additional model in the Vauxhall range, which caters for a new breed of buyer.
“The Crossland X will sit next to the Mokka X in our range, but their identities will be well-defined, and we anticipate that each will have its own following. More will be revealed at the start of next year, but we’re excited about the way Vauxhall’s crossover and SUV family is shaping up – and there’s more to come!”
The Mokka X, which was formerly known simply as the Mokka, has proven a popular model for Vauxhall, with more than 120,000 examples sold in the UK alone.
In addition to the Crossland X, Vauxhall has also confirmed that it will bring no fewer than four new models to market in 2017. A new Insignia Grand Sport, Insignia Sports Tourer, Country Tourer and an as-yet un-named C-segment crossover are all set to arrive next year.
Harvey said: “2017 will be a landmark year for Vauxhall. Our portfolio will grow, for sure, but it’s the quality and innovation which underpins our new products that will surprise customers.
“The Insignia Grand Sport will force buyers to reassess how they perceive our brand, and later in the year our two crossover offerings will bring Vauxhall to, in many cases, completely new sets of buyers.”
