Vauxhall's most powerful car ever revealed

Vauxhall has revealed the final version of its flagship car, the VXR8 GTS-R.

As Holden Commodore production comes to an end this year, so too will life for the VXR8, which is based on the Australian car.

The VXR8 GTS-R comes with a modified version of the current 6.2-litre LSA that, thanks to remapping and a new high-flow air filter, produces 595bhp. This makes it the most powerful car in Vauxhall’s 114-year history.

As a result, the GTS-R can do 0-60mph in 4.2 seconds and hit a limited top speed of 155mph.

Two transmission options are available for the GTS-R, with buyers having the choice between a 6-speed automatic or a 6-speed manual.

To cope with the improved performance, the car retains the torque vectoring system from the standard VXR8 GTS, including a limited slip differential, but with an improved braking system that includes six-piston calipers and 410mm discs up front. Additionally, there’s also new 20-inch forged alloy rims at the front of the car.

Visual changes to the VXR8 include a fresh face thanks to a new front fascia, splitter, wings and carbon fibre vents. At the rear, there’s a new-look diffuser, a carbon-fibre upper section on the rear wing and quad exhaust pipes with diamond-shaped exhaust tips. This diamond design is continued through to the interior with the Alcantara and leather seat trim.

Just 15 examples of the VXR8 GTS-R will come to the UK, with prices starting at £74,500.
