Volkswagen reveals new and largest Polo

The sixth generation Volkswagen Polo has been revealed today in Berlin – it is the largest iteration of the Polo to date.

The B-segment supermini’s wheelbase – 4,053mm – is 93mm bigger than the previous model. This has been done to accommodate a roomier interior, plus a 351-litre boot.

Personalisation is set to be a strong selling point for the new Polo. Fourteen exterior colours are available, alongside 12 wheels ranging from 14 to 18 inches in diameter. Dashpads will be available in 13 colours, alongside two interior trim configurations and 11 seat covers.

The car will have several specs, including the base Trendline model – which will retail for €12,975 in Germany - a Beats edition and the performance-orientated GTI.

Nine engines are going to be on offer, ranging from a 1.0 TGI (natural gas) motor to the top of the line 2.0 TSI found in the GTI, which will deliver 197bhp. Two 1.6 diesels will be available alongside six petrol options.

Herbert Diess, chairman of the board of management for VW passenger cars, said: ‘The Polo is a young, fresh car. It combines charisma with strong technology. No other car offers so much space for its size. This makes our Polo the number one compact, and it will remain number one.’

Volkswagen has sold 14 million Polo’s since its launch in 1975.
