Volkswagen to revamp entire vehicle line-up by 2020

Volkswagen is gearing up to launch a large-scale model offensive that will see its entire vehicle range updated by 2020.

Speaking at yesterday’s unveiling of the latest Golf in Wolfsburg, Dr Herbert Diess, CEO of Volkswagen, said 10 new models would be launched in 2017, with the full line-up being completely refreshed by 2020.

Diess revealed only limited information during his talk, but did go as far as confirming the model range would include a new fastback, as well as a production version of the T-Roc SUV concept showcased at the 2014 Geneva Motor Show.

This new model offensive forms a part of the brand’s Zukunftspakt (Future Pact) project, which has the goal of rebuilding the Volkswagen’s damaged reputation following the emissions scandal last year.

Diess said: “The Zukunftspakt could be the biggest reform programme in Volkswagen’s history, making the brand much more competitive and future proof. The brand’s new strategy will deliver a clear plan for the next decade.

“Volkswagen is gaining momentum, and in 2017 we will be presenting more than 10 new models and major updates. A new fastback will deliver on emotion and the T-Roc will be the next step in our SUV offensive. By 2020 we will have renewed our complete line-up, realising the brand’s greatest product offensive ever. The new Golf marks the beginning.”
