Volvo announces extensive technician recruitment plan

Volvo has announced that it will be looking for 300 UK-based vehicle technicians as the brand expands.

When the recruitment process finishes, it will have increased the amount of technicians it has by half – with an average of five mechanics per dealership by 2020.

This latest announcement comes in the wake of a confirmation by the Swedish brand that it would be putting £6 million into a state-of-the-art training centre in Daventry, Northamptonshire.

The XC90-maker says that it is attempting to establish itself as a leader in the field of driverless cars and vehicle connectivity, with new employees getting the chance to develop the Pilot Assist autonomous driving system.

The company is also giving successful applicants full training in all aspects of the Volvo Retail Experience programme, as well as pushing new staff to build a rapport with owners.

Jon Wakefield, managing director of Volvo Car UK, commented: “Any technician joining Volvo will get the chance to work on exciting industry-leading technology, including autonomous drive, in-car connectivity and hybrid powertrains.

“For those looking to join our 600-strong team of technicians, our continued investment into our staff will allow them to progress their knowledge of new car technology, engineering and design – and grow alongside the Volvo brand.”
